The luxury handbag brand Brahmin is being requested to change its name by a Hindu leader. The company produces handbags made of cow leather. Zed, who is also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, said in a letter to the brand that the name “Brahmin” is offensive to Hindus and should be changed to “Hindu Handbag” or “Handbag for Hindus.”
The letter, which was obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was signed by Zed, a Republican from Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, as well as two other members of Congress, Reps. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., and Steve Pearce, D-N.M., who are both Hindu-Americans. The other signatories are Rep. Steve King, I-Iowa, and Sen. Dean Heller,R-Nev., both of whom are Hindus.
