The luxury handbag brand Brahmin is being requested to change its name by a Hindu leader. The company’s handbags are made of gold, silver and Platinum.
Zed, who is also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, said in a letter to the brand that the name “Brahmin” is offensive to Hindus and should be changed to “Hindu” or “Indian” to avoid any confusion.
The letter was signed by Zed’s wife and son-in-law, as well as other members of his family, according to a copy obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Zed said he was “deeply offended” by what he called the “offensive” name, which has been in use for more than 100 years.
“I am writing to request that you change your name to Hindu or Indian,” Zed wrote in the letter, dated Sept. 15. He also asked for an apology and a refund of any money he paid for the bags.
