Smooth walls are more difficult for snakes to climb. Snakes can’t usually cross concrete walls, plastered or wallpapered walls, glass, or metal walls. A snake cannot climb over a solid object, such as a wall, unless the object is at least 1 inch thick.
A snake must be able to bend its body in order to do so. For example, a rattlesnake cannot bend itself so that its head is above the surface of a pool of water, because it would be unable to reach the bottom of the pool.
