The study, published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, is the first to document the presence of a crocodile species in Southern California for more than 100 million years, said study co-author and UC Irvine professor of geology and geophysics David Evans, who is also a member of UCI’s Institute for the Study of Evolution and the Environment (ISEEE).
The study was funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management, and a grant from the California Academy of Sciences.
