A bag of plain popcorn kernels, cups of dry rice or dried lentils are all viable options for filling a fabric-based draft saver. If you have pets or mice in the home that may chew on the kernels, don’t useedible materials to prevent mold.
If you are using a plastic bag, make sure that the bottom of the bag is at least 1/2 inch above the top of your container. Plastic bags are not recommended for use in a draft-stopper because they tend to expand when they are filled with air, which can cause them to leak.
If you do use plastic bags, be sure to seal them with a tight-fitting sealer before using them.
