Male snakes have a pair of tube-shaped hemipenes (sex organs) that normally sit inside their bodies. Female snakes don’t have these tubes, but they do have an ovipositor, which is a long, thin tube that is used to fertilize eggs. When a female snake lays her eggs, the eggs are fertilized by the sperm of a male snake.
The eggs hatch into tadpoles and then grow up to become adult snakes. When a snake is ready to mate, it will lay its eggs in a special place called the cloaca (pronounced “coo-kah”). Once the female has laid her egg, she will continue to lay eggs for the rest of her life.

How old does a snake have to be to be sexed?
While some of these methods can be used to determine a snake’s gender from the first day of their life, others require that a snake reach sexual maturity between two and four years of age. The most common method of determining the gender of a male or female snake is by palpation.
This is done by inserting a thin needle into the belly of the snake and pulling the skin back and forth. However, this is not always the case. In fact, some species of snakes, such as the eastern diamondback rattlesnake, have been known to mate with both males and females at the same time.
Do corn snakes recognize their owners voice?
Snakes are able to recognise and distinguish between humans and may recognise the scent of their owner as familiar or positive with time. The snakes can’t form a bond with their owner like a dog or cat because they can’t see humans as companions.
Do pet snakes feel love?
Snakes don’t have the intellectual capacity to feel human emotions like love or affection. They can’t feel any affection for you. They can feel an affinity for you as a non-threatening creature that can be used for their own purposes. This is why snakes are so dangerous to humans, and why you should never approach a snake unless you are absolutely sure that it is not a venomous snake.
Can snakes change gender?
Red-sided garter snakes cannot change their sex nor their appearance, instead, they can give off the illusion that they are female. The male snakes can attract other males by emitting a pheromone. The female snakes do not give birth to live young. They lay their eggs in burrows in the ground, and the eggs hatch in a matter of days.
