An alligator was spotted swimming in the ocean near the south pointe park pier. People who watched the reptile being captured said it took two hours.
Department said in a news release that officers were called to the area of the pier at about 2:30 p.m. for a report of a man swimming with a large gator.
When officers arrived, they found the man, who was not injured, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the release said.
