Unless authorized by the rules and regulations of the Florida Fish and Wildlife, it is illegal to kill, hurt, possess, or attempt to kill, an alligator or other crocodilian, or the eggs of an alligator or other crocodilian.

Are Crocodiles federally protected?
American crocodile is protected as a Threatened species by the Federal Endangered Species Act and as a Federally-designated Threatened species by both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Crocodiles are not native to the United States, but have been introduced into the country over the past several hundred years.
The first crocodiles were brought to North America by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries, they were introduced by European explorers and fur trappers. Today, crocs are found in all 50 states and in more than 100 countries around the world.
Can alligators be hunted?

Alligators are protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973, as well as the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which prohibits the importation of alligators into the US. Alligator hunters must obtain a hunting license from the FWC or FWS before they are allowed to hunt.

Can I shoot an alligator in Florida?
